INTRODUCTION:

Flies are vectors and a great nuisance which transmits dangerous diseases in poultry farm from one bird to the other and from farm to farm on account of which Poultry farms suffer heavy losses. Files are usually a source of irritation to chickens, farmers and neighbours. Usually occur in warm places. They multiply in the bodies of dead animals and in the droppings of chickens.

Some of the ill effects of flies are discussed below:

  • Diseases

Key diseases spread by flies include avian influenza, Newcastle disease, fowl cholera, and salmonellosis. These losses are in the form of reduction in growth rates, low egg production, reduced feed intake, weight loss, diarrhoea and in severe cases, death.

  • Stress and Irritation:

The presence of flies in large numbers can cause considerable stress and irritation to poultry birds. Flies often swarm around the birds, feeding on their bodily secretions, wounds, and food. This constant harassment can lead to behavioural changes, reduced feeding efficiency, and decreased egg production.

Fly bites can cause wounds, which can become entry points for secondary bacterial infections. These infections can exacerbate health problems and lead to more severe issues such as:

LIFE CYCLE OF FLIES:

Flies lay eggs in different places depending on the species of fly and their preferred habitat. For example, house flies lay eggs on damp, dark surfaces like compost, manure, and other decomposing organic material, such as garbage, grass clippings, or feces. Fruit flies lay eggs in fermenting liquids, like food waste, rotting produce, and drain debris. Blow flies lay eggs on rotten meat and animal feces, while cluster flies lay eggs in soil outdoors. Stable flies lay eggs on animal waste, rotting vegetation wastes, and other decaying matter. 

Female flies can lay between 75 to 150 eggs at a time, and over a period of a few days, they can produce five or six batches of eggs. The eggs are very small and resemble grains of rice, making them difficult to identify. The eggs soon hatch into legless white larvae, called maggots, which feed from the egg-laying site for three to five days. After that, they choose a dark place to pupate, and after two to five days of development, they metamorphose into reddish-brown pupae, about 8 millimetres (3⁄8 inch) long. Finally, the pupae develop into full-grown flies. Adult flies normally live for two to four weeks, but can hibernate during the winter.

A NOVEL SOLUTION-TRAPZY:

After several years of research in bio security and field trials Narsipur has come out with a highly effective and chemical free insecticide by introducing TRAPZY. TRAPZY consists of plastic sheet on which a layer of non-drying adhesive is applied (a mixture of pheromones lure and non-drying gum) to attract and trap the flies. Non-drying gum remains wet for a month when exposed to air. TRAPZY (Yellow sticky Trap) works in effective trapping of flies and insects which are responsible in spreading diseases and causing a lot of nuisance in poultry farms.

This product is developed based on the behaviour of the flies to attract towards the opposite sex by a specific odour for mating and proliferations. As the flytrap sheet is open, the essence is released in the air and can attract flies in a distance of 50 meters. These flies gets attracted and follow the odour of pheromones applied to TRAPZY and sit on the sheet which also has non-drying, thick adhesive. Once the flies sit on the sheet, there is no chance to fly back in the air, as adhesive is very tacky, strong and elastic in nature. This is the collaborated effect of adhesive, pheromone attractant and the base sheet.

ADVANTAGES OVER TRADATIONAL CONTROL MEASURES:

TRAPZY does not use any chemicals to kill the flies. The drawback of chemical based treatment is resistance to chemical with recurring use. Second, after the consumption of the product the flies can fly to habitation of birds and enter the food chain to spread its ill effect on birds and its health. When a dead fly or larvae of a fly is swallowed by poultry bird, it causes tapeworm growth in intestine which can starve the birds with essential nutrients. Finally, consumption by other animals or flow of chemicals in water bodies can have severe effect on flora and fauna. Chemical Insecticides and pesticides are harmful to flies as well as human and Poultry. To avoid this Narsipur has come up with unique product TRAPZY with a lot of merits over the traditional products.

Once TRAPZY sheet is open to air it can be kept for 1 month. Still the duration depends on the size of the farm, and Flies load

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

  • The gum is already applied on the surface of TRAPZY and folded in such a way so that the sticky surface is protected until it is unfolded for use.
  • Carefully and slowly unfold the plastic sheet and tie the strings to suitable hanging points.
  • TRAPZY has pheromones that attract the flies around and the gum is non-drying that clinches the flies.

CAUTION:
